Guided tours are available by reservation only Tuesday - Sunday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Adults admission is $10, and children under 10 are $5. Must have a group of 10 or more.
"Civil War Battle Bus Tour" - May 27, 2012
May 27th is the 150th anniversary of this battle. Join Robert E. L. Krick, historian for the National Park Service, and Michael C. Hardy, author, on a guided bus tour from Hanover Tavern that focuses on the 1862 Civil War battle in the Hanover Courthouse area. Prior to the bus tour, Mr. Hardy will speak about his book “Battle of Hanover Courthouse: Turning Point of the Peninsula Campaign, May 27, 1862”. Mr. Krick, a leading authority on Civil War history in Hanover County, will utilize knowledge gleaned from letters, diaries, and battle reports to provide a detailed account of individual units, camps, and troop movements during the battle. The guided tour includes stops at historic sites and homes that played a role in the battle as well as lunch at Hanover Tavern. 12:00 – 5:00 PM at the Tavern. There are approximately 120 artifacts, weapons, documents, and photographs telling intriguing stories that have never been shared with the public.
Audio Tour
Almost a year in the making, the Self-Guided Audio tour features hand-held devices with a recorded tour interpreting a dozen stops throughout the Tavern. The tour focuses on the evolution of the building, architectural features, important events (Gabriel’s slave rebellion) and interesting visitors such as Patrick Henry, Margaret Wight, and the Chisholm family.
